The Lagoon Nebula, also known as M8, is a stunning emission nebula located about 4,100 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius. It is one of the largest star-forming regions visible from Earth, spanning over 100 light-years across, and is a breathtaking sight in the summer night sky.
Captured using an amateur setup of a Skywatcher NEQ6 mount, Sharpstar 90mm refractor and a ZWO ASI1600MM camera, the SHO palette image teases the intricate nebula from the background of the milky way, as well as showing details close to the core. Using just 3 hours of data from urban skies, this was Lachlan's first narrowband image.
